Battery-powered OSV to be built by CSSC Huangpu Wenchong

Chinese yard CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding has an order for a 78m-long offshore service vessel (OSV) from Chinese customer Shenzhen Maritime Bureau.

The vessel will be all-electric battery-powered and has been designed by CSSC 708 Research Institute. It will measure 78m long, 12.8m wide, with a depth of 5.5m. It will be equipped with two sets of 650-kW/h-high performance battery packs to fully supply the vessel with electric power. The service vessel will monitoring of other ships, dangerous cargo handling operations and maritime safety, and accident emergency command at Dapengwan LNG hub port area in Shenzhen port. It is designed to have a top speed of 18 knots with a range of 1,000 miles.
