SunStone signs up for two more cruise vessels

Tuesday, 20 Nov 2018

Miami-based SunStone Ships has ordered another two Ulstein-designed and Chinese-built Infinity-class expedition cruise vessels, bringing the number of firm orders at China Merchants Heavy Industry to five.

The first vessel in the series, the Greg Mortimer, is due for delivery in August 2019

The original contract between SunStone and the shipyard involved one ship and nine options.
The Infinity-class vessels, based on the Ulstein Design & Solutions CX103 design, are 104m-long, 18m-wide and have a draught of 5.1m. They have capacity for 130 to 200 passengers and 85 to 115 crew. Features include Ulstein’s distinctive X-BOW®, Ice Class 1A, Polar Code 6, dynamic positioning, safe return to port and zero speed stabilisers.
“We are very pleased with the development and speed with which we are signing these newbuild contracts,” declared SunStone president and CEO, Niels-Erik Lund. “In addition to the five vessels already ordered, SunStone is in negotiations for additional vessels and it is expected that the remaining five options will be signed within 2019.”
