Schottel targets Norwegian market

German propulsion and steering system manufacturer, Schottel GmbH, has opened a new subsidiary in Norway as part of its global expansion strategy.

Explaining the move, Dr Christian Strahberger, CEO of the parent company, said: “By incorporating Schottel Norway AS, the company is pursuing its plan to expedite propulsion sales in Norway and its commitment to global expansion.”
The German company, headquartered in Spay am Rein, has had a strong presence in the Norwegian market with representation through Frydenbø Schottel Nordic AS and William Knudsen AS for many years. From now on, the latter company will focus exclusively on after-sales service and Schottel Norway AS will manage all new equipment sales.
Jan Helge Telseth will run the sales operation at the new subsidiary from the Bergen area. His experience includes spells at Siemens Subsea and Rolls-Royce Marine in Singapore. Meanwhile, electrical engineer Idar Hatløy has joined the new Norwegian team as a sales manager in Ulsteinvik where he was previously CEO at Neptune Offshore, a seismic and subsea operator.
Schottel develops and manufactures propulsion systems with power ratings of up to 30 MW, and steering systems for vessels of all types and sizes.
