Norsepower strengthens global network

Helsinki-based Norsepower Oy Ltd, designer and manufacturer of wind propulsion systems for commercial ships, has reinforced its global supply and service network through the signing of an agreement with technology company Wärtsilä.
The accord comes at an important time for the Rotor Sail manufacturer as it steps up production to meet increasing demand. The collaboration will help Norsepower to work at scale and further strengthen its customer service offering in cooperation with Wärtsilä’s global supply network, the company said. A spokesman commented: “Due to the rapid rise of demand for modern wind propulsion in shipping, Norsepower Rotor Sails are expected to be installed on multiple vessels in the near future. We are therefore delighted by this partnership and the ability it gives us to support our customers no matter where they are sailing.”
Rotor Sails, based on Flettner rotor technology and originally launched in 2014, have been installed aboard three vessels including a Viking Line ferry and a Maersk product tanker. A fourth installation will take place in 2020. Available in heights of 18m, 24m and 30m, the Rotor Sails are tailored to suit individual vessels’ operating profiles.
