GDD ramps up engine division with new strategic partner

Aiming to strengthen and expand activity in engine repair and maintenance, GDD now has partnerships with MWB Motorenwerke Bremerhaven at its Kaiserhafen site in the north German city, and Zeppelin Power Systems GmbH & Co KG (ZPS) in Hamburg.
MWB Marine Services will undertake and develop services for third-party engine manufacturers, including an expansion in the spare parts business. The previous GDD division will specialise in manufacturer-independent maintenance and repair services for engines and generators as well as the sale of spare parts of certain engine and component manufacturers.     
The new set up will also provide strategic benefits for ZPS, an official partner of Caterpillar for Cat and MaK engines. The company already works closely with GDD in the service of engines and drive systems from the ZPS portfolio, particularly in the servicing of river cruise ships. Recently, there has been more cooperation between the two companies with rising demand for scrubber installations, ballast water treatment systems, and dual-fuel engine conversions. Now, ZPS will be in a position to provide complex solutions in the repair and maintenance of engines and propulsion systems and to carry out re-engining projects directly in GDD docks.
