Classification society and weather specialist join forces

Trond Hodne, senior vice president at DNV GL – Maritime (left), and Per-Olof Schroeder, CEO, StormGeo, shake hands after the agreement to combine the fleet performance solutions of both companies under StormGeo’s banner was signed

The tie-up will mean that a combined fleet of more than 12,000 ships will receive daily information on ship routeing, weather intelligence, navigation and fleet performance.
Under the agreement, DNV GL’s Eco Insight and Navigator Insight will be combined with Bergen-based StormGEO’s FleetDDS and ship reporting service. The Norwegian company will manage the new set-up.
The entities claim that the agreement will result in the creation of the largest vessel performance service available in shipping and will provide a basis for improved decision making for clients who will also be able to share data through the classification society’s industry platform, Veracity.
The deal is expected to close before the end of March.

Weather routeing service provider, StormGEO, and classification society DNV GL are to combine their fleet performance functionality in a new ship performance management tool.
