Accelleron agrees South Korean manufacturing deal
Switzerland-based turbocharger manufacturer, Accelleron, has signed a manufacturing agreement with HD Hyundai subsidiary, HD Hyundai Marine Engine, for the manufacture of its large A100-M radial turbochargers in South Korea.
The Hyundai engine firm will build the turbochargers at its Korean plant, meeting demand from both HD Hyundai Group and other engine builders. The Korean arrangement will strengthen Acceleron’s position in the Asian market and complement its existing manufacturing arrangements in Switzerland. Benefits will include shorter lead times and lower transport costs for Asian customers.
Accelleron’s division president of Medium and Low-Speed products, Christoph Rofka, commented: “We are pleased to extend our collaboration with HD Hyundai as we celebrate the 40th anniversary of our two-stroke turbocharger license agreement. This contract manufacturing agreement will further strengthen our production footprint in the core Asian market, reduce trade complexity, and enhance our operational flexibility. After very constructive negotiations, we are excited to bring this undertaking to realisation.”
Young Kang, HD Hyundai Marine Engine CEO, said: “We are excited to collaborate with Accelleron, a world-class industrial turbocharger company with a 100-year legacy. We believe this partnership will further strengthen the cooperative and constructive relationship between two companies.”
HD Hyundai Marine Engine is a new entity within HD Hyundai Group, and follows its acquisition of 35% stake in STX Heavy Industries.
