Fugro to convert two PSVs into geotechnical vessels
Dutch offshore services specialist Fugro has acquired two offshore platform supply vessels (PSVs) and will convert both vessels into geotechnical vessels for operations in the offshore wind farm sector.
The addition of the 2019-built 5,200dwt Sea Goldcrest and sister ship Sea Gull, acquired from Malaysia’s Nam Cheong International, to its owned fleet will further strengthen Fugro’s ability to address the market demands and shortages in geotechnical capable vessels.
Upon the delivery of Sea Goldcrest later this year, Fugro will start the conversion of the vessel at a yet to be named shipyard. The vessel is expected to be operational in early 2025.
The purchase of these two vessels also supports Fugro’s net zero 2035 roadmap as both PSVs are deemed fuel efficient and suitable for conversion to low carbon fuels.
Earlier, in 2023 Fugro acquired the two 3,929dwt 2015-built PSVs Fugro Resilience and Topaz Endurance, now renamed Fugro Resolve – two Ulstein PX121 class vessels and said that they would convert them into geotechnical vessels for operations in the global offshore renewal energy market. Conversion work on these two vessels is currently underway at Norway’s Ulstein Verft.
