US Navy chooses Jensen workboat design

Thursday, 11 Jan 2018

The US Naval Sea Systems Command (Navsea) has picked a workboat design by Crowley subsidiary Jensen Maritime Consultants, to provide ship- and sub-assist services and other port operational functions at US Navy facilities around the world.

The 10-tonne bollard pull workboat will assist barges, submarines and other naval vessels

The 10-tonne bollard pull workboats will assist barges, submarines and other naval vessels, and fulfil other functions including opening and closing security barriers, and the positioning of floating port equipment.
The design will be used by an unspecified Pacific Northwest boat builder to construct the first 12.5m-long vessel which will have two Pullmaster hydraulic deck winches for use in multiple mooring arrangements, and heavy-duty fendering to provide protection when undertaking such operations. A removable cabin and push knees will allow the workboat to be transported by road and the propulsion system will comprise ZF W325 marine gears and inboard diesels, Twin Cummins QSM11-455 units which produce 450 bhp at 2,100 rpm.
