Propulsion system for wind turbine installation vessel

Voith Turbo BV announced a contract to equip a wind turbine installation vessel with Voith Schneider Propellers (VSPs) and a Voith inline Thruster (VIT).

The newbuilding is similar to the “Sea Installer”

Built at Cosco Shipyard Group Co. Ltd, China, the newbuilding will be 132m-long and 39m-wide with a total capacity of 5,000 tonnes. Customer is the Denmark-based offshore installation company A2SEA. Voith will provide three VSPs for the main propulsion system with a power of 3,800 kW each as well as a type 2300 - 1500 VIT with an input power of 1,500 kW. The new vessel will have a crane capacity of 900 tonnes and is scheduled to enter service in the middle of 2014. It is similar to A2SEA´s installation vessel "Sea Installer", which is currently nearing completion and will soon be transferred from China to Europe.
