The ferry will have a catamaran hull and it will be built by Oma Baatbyggeri at Stord, and will be put into operation for sailings in Hordaland in Norway from January 2020.
Boreal and Hordaland county municipality signed a contract for operation of ferry services in April 2017. The order is the first battery ferry contract for the yard. The ferry will be equipped with battery packs that can be disconnected and replaced by a diesel engine as a spare solution called plug-in hybrid electric. The ferry must
meet very demanding environmental requirements, which involves a significant reduction in CO2 emissions and energy consumption. The contract continues the high environmental profile of Boreal’s newbuilding programme, which has included orders for 15 environmental-friendly vessels in the last five years.
