HMM to order a series of container vessels

Monday, 08 Jan 2018

South Korean shipping company Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM) plans to order a series of 22,000-TEU container ships in 2018.

HMM President and chief executive officer Mr C.K. Yoo said that the 22,000-TEU newbuilding construction project will be in accordance with the national expectation for South Korea to be a leading shipping nation. “HMM is now located in the good position to be a world-class leading shipping company by fulfilling new environmental protection regulations starting from 2020,” Yoo said. The 22,000-TEU order has been spoken of for some time on the shipping market, but this is the first time that the plans have been directly commented on by the company. The vessels would likely be ordered in South Korea, observers said.
